These are the best books I have read on personal finance. Believe me, I have read just about all of them. A lot of books say the same sensible things. The trick is to find a book that speaks to you, educates you, and inspires you to get control over your life. If you need a reference book to make sure you are on the right track, start with these.

For Budgeting:
All Your Worth: The Ultimate Lifetime Money Plan by Elizabeth Warren & Amelia Tyagi (That’s Senator Warren of Massachusetts, and she was also the founder of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.)

For General Education:
Personal Finance for Dummies, by Eric Tyson
(This is the stuff that should have been taught to you in K-12. Make sure to buy the most recent copy as it’s updated every few years.)

For Retirement Planning:
The Bogleheads’ Guide to Retirement Planning, by Taylor Larimore
(A must have.)

For Investments:
Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing, by Taylor Larimore
(Hands down, the best investment guide out there.)
